"In painting I tend
to focus most heavily on the process, on the surface of the paint itself
and on its accretion. Before this stage there is inspiration and formulation;
the idea is reworked repeatedly until the surface area has been reconciled
and balanced in its composition.

I have continued to use
the same processes which i have used throughout my painting practice:
the application of tape, cutting and then stencilling of the mask, followed
by repainting and then removal of all tape. Whilst i can see that this
technique minimises the mark of the hand, there is just enough error and
friction for me to feel continually drawn to it as a method.

Lines being marked across the surface are like music or words being read: they are the trace of the time spent creating them. That this can then be viewed as a discrete creation and appreciated as an object in its own right merely feeds the tail of the snake back into its own mouth." Emma Langridge, Melbourne, 2007 |
