| John
Olsen Auction Record John
Olsen's beautiful painting 'Love in the Kitchen' has been sold at auction for
$1.09 million. Painted in 1969 while residing at the artist settlement of Dunmoochin,
northwest of Melbourne, 'Love in the Kitchen' draws heavily upon Olsen's experiences
of domestic life out bush in this artist commune. In this marvelous painting,
Olsen's wavering and at times erratic line creates a theatrical space where chaos,
humour, and love collide. The sale by Mossgreen auctions represents the highest
price paid at auction for a living Australian artist, and almost doubles Olsen's
previous sale record of $540,500. 'Love in the Kitchen' was last sold at auction
in 2003 for $486,000. | ||
