Chris Booth @ the Museum of Brisbane

Following the success of Temperature: Contemporary Queensland Sculpture in 2004, Museum of Brisbane will once again find out who is heating up the local contemporary art scene.

‘Taking the temperature’ describes the practice of monitoring and interpreting to better understand the condition of something – in this case, the current work from some Queenslands most outstanding artists.

This exhibition, showcasing work by more than 20 artists from Brisbane and Queensland, will include the beautiful work of Chris Booth.

Dear Collector,

TAKING A FRESH LOOK - JANUARY 2009

What’s in a name?

Quite a lot we think, so we have decided to change ours from Metro 5 Gallery to
Metro Gallery.

Since 2006, I have been the Managing Director of the gallery and its majority
shareholder along with Dr Michael Nissen. So it’s time to drop the number ‘5’ which
originally described the number of directors involved when we opened the gallery
seven years ago. We will start the New Year with a fresh name and logo. We hope you
like it!

The exceptional growth of the gallery has allowed us to introduce some new artistic
directions. This year, we successfully supported and exhibited three indigenous artists.
We have now formed strong alliances with several of Australia’s most respected
Aboriginal artist communities and look forward to continuing to support their
established and emerging artists.

While our major focus has been contemporary Australian art – with luminaries including
John Olsen, Jason Benjamin and Jasper Knight exhibiting at the gallery next
year – we are also delighted to be exhibiting three international artists as well. Nicky
Hoberman, recognized as one of Britain’s foremost figurative artists, Alexander Hoda,
a controversial young sculptor and graduate from the Royal Academy in London and
Blek Le Rat, the great French stencil artist who Banksy credits as a major inspiration.
You can view our 2009 exhibition schedule at www.metrogallery.com.au in the new
year.

We look forward to welcoming you to Metro Gallery in 2009.
