Twice A Day, Every Day For The Rest Of Your Life, 2005
oil on canvas
61.0 x 152.0 cm

"The themes of life, mortality, work, routine, and the effect of time are explored in my Diptych and Text Paintings.

My Diptych Paintings depict images of contemporary still life. The subject is carefully selected based on the capacity to form an allegorical narrative. Banal objects, often repeated on each canvas, represent a different timeframe. The difference in time may be years, days, hours, or perhaps just moments apart. The shift in content from one canvas with the next encourages curious inspection and tempts the viewer to discover subtle variations within the work.

I began using text in my art in a series of Text Paintings completed in 2003. Text was used to give directions to a depicted location, from another place, on the other side of the world.

In an ongoing series of paintings, the use of text has been adapted to 'one liners' painted over abstract backgrounds. They're intended to be fun and counteract the more serious nature of my Diptych Paintings".
