"In Berlin I found myself in all sorts of amazing and interesting places, from artist studios in squats that have been studios for the past 20-years to bars playing the craziest electro I've ever heard to buildings scared from war to people scared from war."

"On my journeys everyday, which usually started with a train ride to some new part of town I would pull out a few pieces of paper I had cut especially for the trip, and take advantage of the fact that I was sitting still, as were the people around me. Everyday I would make some drawings or paintings. It seemed to me as though the train provided an ideal place in which to view the true character of the locals in their most benign environment. Consistent and comparable in the common context, I felt comfortable and became fascinated with the practice of watching people waiting to get wherever they were going."

"These Berlin works are a study of
transit. The in-between of being somewhere. The being inbetween is what
I am interested in. I think it may have come around like this from travelling
so much myself. When I travel with the intention of discovering new things,
I can become lost in the journey itself. I am reminded of a sentiment
I once had -It used to be about having fun, it used to be about getting
there." |

"I have never felt that there was a single point of contact with a person, a piece of art or writing that has fuelled my creativity so much that I would identify it as being the source of my inspiration. Inspiration is fed to me in trickles, it is delivered in life force through common things in my immediate fields of existence." Anthony Lister - 2005. |
