The Juliet painting series are portraits derived from a traditional Chinese love story in which Zhong Chen has changed the names to those of western literature's most famous lovers.

Zhong Chen studied free brush mark painting as a young man and his work explores traditional Chinese folk art, wood block prints and ink brush painting.

The Romeo and Juliet series is part of his re-interpretation of the traditional genres of bird, flower and portrait painting through his contemporary pixelated perspective, a sign of the computer age.
