"Ben Ward is a self-taught visual artist who ackowledges the importnace of the Surrealist movement and the influence of OP Art and the Abstractionists, but his signature style has developed further after years of experimenting with Digital Video feedback and electronic 4D animation. In particular, his practice examines spatial disorientation, structural ordering and the manipulation of geometric composition.
Ben's works explore the complex possibilities of colour application, created by painstakingly applying alternate layers of conflicting sets of lines inclined at various angles; each layer affects the one before it in an unpredictable way. These complex paintings appear to move, they delightfully fool the eye, providing a wealth of optical fascination".
